Intro/Divine Appointments
Rosh Hashanah started the New Biblical Year of 5779 at nightfall, and will continue until nightfall tonight. Also called The Feast of Trumpets, it’s an opportunity to remember and celebrate several amazing events that all occurred or would occur on the first day of the Biblical year.
It was the 6th Day of Creation when God made Adam and Eve.
Nearly 4,000 years later, Jesus came to earth to redeem mankind
(as the second Adam) on the same calendar date. Yes, it’s the Real Christmas!
In the future it’s also the day to watch, this Holy Day initiates God’s judgment and reward for mankind: It’s the Beginning of the Tribulation, the Rapture and Second Coming, and it kicks off the Ten Days of Awe to remind us to repent and humble ourselves in His presence. It’s a call for God’s Witnesses to lift up our voices like a trumpet to bring in a harvest of souls.
It’s a day when the prophetic calendar flips on the year ahead.
I’ll take an in depth look at what’s coming in the year ahead during the biblical year of 5779.
The biblical calendar is a little odd.
It Didn’t Start with Day 1 When God Said Let There Be Light
The Calendar Started On Day 6 When God Created Man In His Image
Adam and Eve made it till Day 10 when they brought sin into the perfect world and were tossed out of the Garden. That’s now called Yom Kippur.
God had a plan to fix that. He created Spring Feasts & Fall Feasts to prepare the people for two things:
His First Coming and His Second Coming.
He fulfilled the Spring Feasts not only to the day – but to the very hour.
Since the Fall Feasts mark the time He will judge the world and end the world –
Celebrating Them Helps Us To Be Ready For When He Comes Again?
Leviticus 23:23-25 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to the people of Israel, saying: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of complete rest, a holy convocation commemorated with trumpet blasts. You shall not work at your occupations; and you shall present the Lord’s offering by fire.
Prophecy – 5779 – #9
Hebrew numbers are also letters and stories.
While I don’t understand it, the universe functions in a very mathematical way – a very intentional way. Every year has scriptures that prophetically speak to it.
Before He could create the universe God needed to create a language to use.
In creating Hebrew, He also created the building blocks of the universe. So they are not like English letters and numbers
which don’t have any effect on time or how and when God moves.Hebrew numbers/letters are literally connected to the Word
and to how God is moving to advance His kingdom.
That’s why the numbers and letters are so valuable for encountering Him.
9 – Tet (Tate)
The pictograph looks like:A Coiled Snake / Basket / Being Surrounded
5778 – 8 was about our walls and borders and boundaries being adjusted
Take a moment and reflect back on the last 12 months.
It may have been a pleasant year or a challenging year
as God adjusted your territory inside and out. Spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
It may have affected your relationships, where you live or work, boundaries and borders were moved all around.
So what about 5779. What is ahead?
You may be able to look back 10 years ago to 2009
There may be some general similarities in how God moves
Regardless of a decade ago, God will move uniquely in your life this year
to bring about His will and purpose
Let’s look at the Hebrew number 9 which is also the 9th letter in their alphabet
The meaning of Hebrew numbers and letters are partly determined by how they are used in the Word of God
Tet was first used in the phrase, “And God saw the light, that it was good (tov); and God divided the light from the darkness.”
There is a paradox. The light was good, but God separated the light from darkness.
The words for both pure and impure (clean and unclean) both begin with the letter tet.
The word “Tov” (good), is like the pain of childbirth.
No one believes the pain is good, but they believe it is Beneficial,
because through that pain they received a new life.
Beneficial is the word to remember for this year
Tet has a “hidden” aspect to it, like a womb.
It surrounds and protects, it’s hidden, but it is good and necessary.
God is at work – in ways we can’t see – so this year requires trust
7:15 Break 2
Purpose
So, as a practical example from my memory – As I look back in my life 10 years ago to 2009,
I remember, on one level – what a powerful year of ministry
But I remember I wanted to quit my job multiple times because I was dealing with difficult issues
I didn’t see a remedy for them and I couldn’t see God at work through them
By the Fall, I think on Rosh Hashanah, God moved with such powerful blessings to not just resolve what I was unhappy about – But to set my life on the right track for the future in ways that would bring blessings overflowing
It was clear that God had been moving in hidden ways that I was unaware of
Nothing was obvious – I resisted God and people who were working for my good – on every level
If I had listened to my heart, I would have made the biggest mistakes possible – My heart was lying to me.
Jeremiah 17:9 says, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I believe that is an important verse for this year
The Staff of Moses (Ex. 4:17).
“You shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs”
When God appeared to Moses in the burning bush,
the Lord told Moses to cast his staff to the ground.
immediately, the rod turned into a dangerous snake from which Moses fled…
his staff became a threat.
The Lord told Moses to pick up the serpent,
and as he did, it returned again to being a staff.
God’s ways are not our ways, so we need to listen closely, stay intimate, and avoid trying to do it our way, or anticipate God. Follow means follow.
When we lay our staff at the feet of God, that staff will be different when the Lord tells us to lift it.
After all the miracles with that staff, Moses had a weak moment of anger and used that staff to strike the rock in the wilderness (that represented Christ), instead of speaking to it. With that failure he lost his chance to enter the promised land.
Rom 8:28 is A Huge Verse For This Year
And we know that in all things God works for the good [Tov]
of those who love Him,who have been called according to his purpose.
Make sure you are on the right road
We need to constantly examine everything our hands are doing
Is this His purpose or mine? Whose agenda am I pursuing?
Just because it’s feels right and looks right doesn’t make it right
Whose Purpose and Plan are being pursued?
The suffering of Jesus wasn’t good in and of itself – It was tov. He endured it for the joy set before Him.
The year ahead is tov. He is setting joy before us.
The year ahead is going to be good! But it’s gonna be tov
Nine is like the 9 months of Pregnancy and Birth
Something is coming with a life of its own
Time commitments will change
So we can expect birth pangs to be in the year ahead
Since every birth is a miracle, we can expect miracles
God will be moving in places of barrenness
Expect people to get born again
We birth lots of things besides babies:
Visions and dreams – Jobs and careers
Ministries and families – Relationships and retirement
Marriages and divorce – Hobbies and life directions
All babies look like the people who made them. Make sure it has God’s DNA
Look deeper – Fight for God’s will to be done. You are not a victim of fate – God is wherever you are
The Number 9 Symbolizes: Judgment, Harvest, Fruitfulness, Truth
9 Beatitudes (Matthew 5)
- Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
- Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled. - Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
- Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
- Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
- for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
The Beatitudes are Tov. Suffering is beneficial because of what you reap or become.
9 Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22 – 23).
- Faithfulness
- Gentleness
- Goodness
- Joy
- Kindness
- Long suffering
- Love
- Peace
- Self-control
The Fruits all come as the result of “life” on a tree which requires us to grow. They are all Tov.
9 Gifts (1 Corinthians 12:8-11)
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit…
- For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit,
- to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
- to another faith by the same Spirit,
- to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
- to another the working of miracles,
- to another prophecy,
- to another discerning of spirits,
- to another different kinds of tongues,
- to another the interpretation of tongues.
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
The nine Gifts require us to minister or to use them.
They are not for keeping but rather for using and giving away. They are Tov.
7:30 Break 3
Elijah & Jezebel
Elijah
He was a worker of Miracles.
He called down fire from heaven.
He killed 850 false priests.
He made it rain after 3-year drought.
He outran horses and chariots (20 mph vs 40 mph)
I think it’s safe to call all of that Good
But the story isn’t over
When Jezebel threatened to kill him – suddenly everything changed.
Listen to this – This doesn’t even sound like the same guy:
1 Kings 19 “Elijah was afraid and ran for his life…a day’s journey into the wilderness…I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”
Even During Victory – Trials Can Sap Our Strength – Steal Our Hope – Or Change Our Perspective
He ran away and kept running for six weeks until he was hundreds of miles away from Jezebel,
but the distance didn’t make him feel safe, all he felt was fear and self-pity.
Running into desert. He has no plan. No food. No rest.
1 Kings 19
“The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
- Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart.
- After the wind there was an earthquake.
After the earthquake came a fire, but Elijah still couldn’t hear God. - And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
- Elijah heard it and was finally able to leave the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
When we are afraid, we usually misunderstand what God is saying, because His perspective is so much bigger.
God blew a mountain to pieces to proclaim to the fearful Elijah,
“Could Jezebel do that? I’m able to destroy Jezebel whenever I want”.
Then, with an earthquake and fire, God reminded Elijah that the earth belonged to the Lord, not to Jezebel.
But none of that caught Elijah’s attention, it was a whispered question that God repeated,
“What are you doing here, Elijah?” You stopped following!
Six weeks before he was outrunning horses – it was all about miracles
But now – miracles have lost their shine. He can’t hear God in the ways he just did
Only intimacy with God can restore you from an attack from Jezebel
Elijah had gotten out of place for the move of God.
1 Kings 19 The Lord said to him:
- “Go back the way you came…anoint Hazael king over Aram.
- Also, anoint Jehu…king over Israel,
- and anoint Elisha…to succeed you as prophet.
- [and by the way] Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—
God reminded Elijah that, despite appearances, he was not alone, or in danger,
and his retirement was already arranged.
And it’s here we see the big picture of God’s plan, not just for the present, but for eternity as well.
Jehu was a king, so he alone had the authority to kill a queen.
Elijah was a shadow or type of John the Baptist, and as such, he was beginning what only Jesus could finish.
John the Baptist could reveal sin to the sinner, but only Jesus could bring death to sin.
This year we need to discern
- not just what we are dealing with
- but why and who is empowering it.
We need to guard our hearts from witchcraft – manipulation – irrational fear, etc
2 Kings 9
Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup, arranged her hair and looked out of a window. He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?”
Two or three eunuchs looked down at him. “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.” 2 Kings 9
Notice the different reaction Jezebel had to Jehu.
She threatened Elijah, but put on makeup to meet Jehu.
Elijah she hated; but Jehu she feared.God has a method and a process,
and each of us have a specific role to play. It’s a mistake to assume that we are God’s only answer, or the best answer.
As the Bride of Christ, we would do well to remember that there is a bit of Jezebel in us all.
We have all rebelled and manipulated the situation to gain our own will and way.
7:45 Break 4
What Are We Made Of
In Revelation 2, Jesus says of the Spirit of Jezebel,
“I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering”
Sometimes we are in the hands of time
while God uses struggles to drive the ungodly nature of rebellion out of our souls.
And sometimes we are in the hands of the circumstances,
like the desert journey, to train us how to overcome.
But all the time, we are in the hands of God,
and He has the battle and the victory.
Every sickness, struggle and desert journey we face is not Jezebel – or the devil – and it’s not always God. Sometimes it’s just life.
So don’t hyper focus on dealing with attack this year. But be aware of what’s going on.
If it’s Jezebel – you or whoever is getting attacked will be seriously abnormal – different – reactive – defensive – depressed.
There will be spiritual confrontations – Challenges To Choose Who You Will Serve
Whatever Entertains You Also Enters You (Francis Frangipayne)
Not many should become teachers…Responsibilities
Be slow to speak. Or post on social media
Quick to listen
Before you share that truth – Ask…have I taken this advice – Is this in my life?
We Are Made Of Dirt & We Reap What We Sow.
We plant in us, others plant in us, God plants in us, and Demons plant in us.
If God shares truth with us, it’s first to set us free;
to use as a light to identify our faults. It’s our extra oil.
We need to be wise about our own condition this year.
What kind of Dirt are you?
When God plants in you, what will He reap?
Can God give you a gift?
Are you worthy?
He used to sing the most beautiful songs over me.
I’d try to write them down and He wouldn’t let me.
All the words would scurry away.
He said, that was just for you. I’d say but it’s so precious it needs to be shared
He’d say, ooh, it’s too precious for you?
We can be so quick to want to share that we take it out of God’s hand and give it away
It never impacts our life – And He gave it to us
God is asking some of us, Why are you looking for affection from someone else?
Why do you want to share what I have made just for you?
I knew all the answers of course – I said, To be a blessing?
He said – but then why is it a waste of the gift for me to bless you?
Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, “Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.” So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.” And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.” Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.” Revelation 10:8-11
Truth is always bitter when you apply it to yourself and sweet when you can declare it over others.
A word of conviction that is not a testimony delivered in humility is usually a judgment or condemnation that will not produce fruit that is good
Don’t stop trying to impact the world on social media
That’s not what I’m saying. Just don’t ignore the slow steady work God wants to do in you over time
Intimacy creates an overflow and fruitfulness
Truth can be shared without regard to love
Love needs to be the motivation and the end result
Our Eyes Are Evidence of What is to Come
1 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
When we were in the womb we had eyes, and our eyes had rods and cones to distinguish shapes and colors, but there were no shades or colors to see, and little to focus on except total darkness.
Our eyes were meant to see light, so our eyes were the evidence that beyond the womb was a whole other world, still yet to be seen. No matter what we are going through, we can be confident that something greater is ahead, because God has prepared it for us, and placed the desire in our heart.
Deep inside, we know there is more… and we long for it. We must guard our hearts not to pretend that this world can ever give us all we want. It is a reminder of our inheritance yet to come.
